SLAM - Street Level Airway Management by James Michael Rich, CRNA was published in September 2007 by Brady – Pearson – Prentice Hall and signed copies by the author/editor will soon be available on our website.  This will be the textbook for all future courses. 


Day one covers the first 8 chapters of the book and is essentially the complete SLAM Express Course.

  5. Confirmation of Tracheal Intubation and Monitoring of Lung Ventilation (Lecture)
  6. Pharmacology of Airway Management (Lecture)
  7. Rapid Sequence Induction and Intubation in Adults (Lecture)
  8. Rescue Ventilation (Lecture)
  9. Direct laryngoscopy and Tracheal Intubation (Hands-on)
  10. Intubation Rescue (Hands-on)
  11. Rescue Ventilation (Hands-on)
  12. RSI (Hands-on)
  13. Pig Cricothyrotomy Lab (Hands-on Lab featuring percutaneous dilational cricothyrotomy, trans-tracheal jet ventilation, and surgical cricothyrotomy)

DAY TWO (Hours 11 - 20):  SLAM Advanced Course on Emergency Airway Management

  1. Advanced techniques for difficult intubation  (Lecture)
  2. Fiberscopic and Video-Assisted Intubation and lightwand intubation (Lecture)
  3. Cricothyrotomy - The Traumatized Airway - The Cervical Spine-Injured Patient - Burns and Inhalation Injuries (Lecture)
  4. The Pediatric Airway (Lecture)
  5. Sedation/Analgesia for Postintubation Management (Lecture)
  6. Legal Implications of Emergency Airway Management (Lecture)
  7. Retrograde Intubation (Hands-on)
  8. Fiberscopic and Video Assisted Intubation (Hands-on)
  9. Advanced Techniques (Hands-on)
  10. Lightwand Intubation (Hands-on)
  11. Intubating LMA (Hands-on)
  12. Flexible Fiberoptic Intubation (Hands-on)
  13. Pediatric Airway (Hands-on)

Lectures occur during hours 1 – 5 and  and 11 - 15.   Hands-on occurs during hours 6 - 10 and 16 - 20.    

Our two-day 20 hour course is known as the SLAM Advanced Course on Emergency Airway Management.  Day one is the same as the SLAM Express and covers chapters 1 through 8 of the SLAM Textbook.  Day two covers chapters 9 through 18 of the SLAM textbook.

These courses will be held at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas unless otherwise specified.  The projected schedule primarily lists UNT at Fort Worth, but other cities will be added based on your requests.  We have listed area hotels on our lodging page who are offering our students a discounted rate.  Their rooms are reasonable in cost .
